Spring Clean Your
Skin
We’ve made it through
winter and spring is upon us but is your skin still crying out the winter
blues?
There’s nothing worse for the skin than a
long, cold winter. The low humidity in conjunction with central heating and
less fresh air can leave your skin looking dull, dry, rough and even wrinkled
and older. It’s not just the skin on your face that suffers, elbows, knees and
heels are often dry, rough and scaly following months of neglect.
Spring brings changes in climate
and thus, changes in our skin. Temperatures and humidity can fluctuate, which
means we must give more thought to how we care for our complexions. Many of us
also suffer from allergies during the spring time which can cause redness,
puffiness and irritation.
So now is the time to start paying a little more attention to
your skin as you prepare to strip off those winter layers and look forward to
the summer months ahead.
Adopt a good skincare routine
Adopt a “no excuses” philosophy when it comes
to taking off your makeup at the end of the day. Even if you don’t wear make-up,
keeping skin clean is the first step to a great complexion as effective
cleansing removes the impurities which build up over the course of the day.
Skin is then able to absorb the serums and moisturisers applied afterwards.

which products you should be using to effectively clean your skin.
No matter what your skin condition, a regular
skin care routine is essential for maintaining healthy, smooth and radiant
skin.
Brighten dull skin
The winter can leave your skin looking dull
and one of the best ways to brighten your complexion is through exfoliation. There
are a number of methods available, however, care should be taken when
exfoliating the skin as some methods will compromise the barrier function of
the skin and over-exfoliation can lead to further problems.
It is important to never use a mechanical, exfoliating scrub on your face as this can be too harsh. Scrubs that contain walnut shells or apricot pits, for example, can cause microscopic tears in the skin that can ultimately make dry winter skin look and feel much worse.
Products containing acids are a far safer way to rid your skin of those dull, dead cells.
Environ Ionzyme C-Quence Energising Masque is a gentle home exfoliating system that includes high concentrations of natural vitamin C and salicylic acid. It is particularly suited for rough, sun-damaged skin.
Environ’s new Revival Masque is the ideal post winter treatment. The formulation contains a unique
combination of Asiatic, Lactic and Mandelic acids. The potent formula of this
home treatment mask helps to address dry skin, uneven skin tone and the
signs of ageing for a revitalised, radiant complexion.
Or why not visit the salon for a professional
post winter skin treatment? Environ’s Cool
Peel is a ground-breaking treatment, which rejuvenates skin while caring
for the epidermis. Unlike more aggressive peels which destroy important skin
cells, the cool peel helps to stimulate healthy growth.
Rehydrate
Low humidity
and central heating will cause dehydration of the skin. In addition to this we
often don't remember to drink as much
water when it is colder.
Environ’s
new Super Moisturiser+ is the ideal
addition to your vitamin A skincare routine for added hydration following the
winter. This luxurious moisturising cream contains several
dynamic ingredients and exceptional emollients. These assist in regulating the
skin’s natural moisture levels and replenishing its moisture barrier. Skin is
left feeling richly nourished, with extra resilience.
To get beautiful skin on the
outside, you need to feed it from the inside with the right nutrients. The
addition of supplements is vital as part of an effective skincare routine.
Skin Omegas + from the Advanced Nutrition
Programme contains optimum levels of EPA
(an important omega 3) along with GLA (an important omega 6) made from Evening
Primrose Oil to strengthen and enhance the barrier protection of the skin and increase
hydration and skin smoothness.
This will
feed the skin both on your face and body, which will also help with those dry
elbows and knees. Skin Omegas + have the added benefit of preparing the skin
for any waxing or tanning treatments leading to improved, longer lasting
results.
Balance Skin with vitamin A
Because
spring shifts from sunny to cool to rainy, it is important to maintain a
healthy balance. Oil production may be up one day, while dryness may be an
issue on another.
Vitamin A is
a key ingredient for skin health as it normalises skin cells, balancing oil
levels without causing dryness. Vitamin A
is necessary for skin cell repair and maintenance. The correct amount protects
against fine lines and wrinkles, helps improve acne and dry skin conditions.
Applying Vitamin A topically to the skin will help with uneven skin tone and
pigmentation, while promoting collagen and elastin protection.
Depuff
A surge of
pollen can cause the delicate skin around the eyes to become puffy and
irritated. Combat this with Environ’s C-Quence Eye Gel. This light gel formulation, containing
a variety of vitamins, antioxidants and peptides, helps improve the appearance
of fine lines and assists in moisturising the delicate skin around the eye area,
whilst protecting against free radicals and pollutants. It also contains
Rosemary, which helps reduce puffiness, stimulates cells and improves skin
tone.
Protect
We know the
importance of using a broad spectrum sunscreen all year round. During the
winter we are more concerned with UVA rays however as the sun starts to shine we
should be focusing on the SPF. 80% of the
visible signs of ageing is due to sun exposure. Unprotected exposure to the sun
is like sitting in a time machine on fast-forward.
Have regular facials
There’s no
better way to support a great skincare routine than with regular professional facials
to achieve lasting and continually improving results. From products to tools to
methods, a professional facial will win against just about any at-home
treatment, improving skin health and appearance.
Environ's signature facial,
the Active Vitamin Treatment, uses
gentle electrical pulses and soundwaves to greatly enhance the penetration of
powerful nutrients. Skin is left nourished, supple and radiant.
We recommend
a regular facial every 4 – 6 weeks for maximum benefits, however, even getting
one a few times a year will help towards improving your skin.
It’s not
just your skin that benefits from regular facials! Facials are great for
relaxation.
Don’t forget your body
A good
skincare routine shouldn’t stop at the neck. Environ AVST Body Oil used
daily together with AVST Hydrating
Lotion will improve elasticity, prevent dry skin and treat pigmentation,
stretch marks and photo damaged skin. Don’t forget your heels when applying
these products. They’re great for treating feet which have been shut away in winter boots.
